Natural Deoderants

Dealing with bodily sweat is a normal part of hygiene for most of us. Most Americans prefer to use deodorants to deal with the odor associated with sweating in addition to reducing the amount of sweat. There are lots of toxic ingredients in conventional deodorants that are linked to certain disease as well as certain cancers. Luckily, several personal care companies are catching on to the public’s demand for non-toxic products.

Burt’s Bees, already a leader in natural products, has made their own deodorant. Burt’s Bees Herbal Deodorant spray mixes sage, lemon and lavender to minimize and neutralize odor while still allowing your body to sweat; a natural process that we need in order to get rid of our internal toxins. Their pit putty is an interesting spin on odor control, too. It has a very simple ingredient list of organic arrowroot powder, organic coconut oil, organic lime essential oil and organic geranium essential oil.

Arm and Hammer offers a natural deodorant as well. The Essentials Natural Deodorant uses no aluminum or parabens. This stick uses a blend of baking soda, chamomile, geranium and coriander oils to keep you smelling fresh.

A very well renowned, but expensive alernative can be tried. Dr. Hauschka’s Deodorant of witch hazel, sage and zinc absorbs odor without disturbing your body’s natural processes of sweating to eliminate toxins. Lavanila’s Healthy Deodorant

works well on odor prevention. It is unique in that it uses amino acid technology. No aluminum, parabens, sulfates, or synthetic dyes are used. These can be pricey, but can be well worth it. This one comes in several scents to choose.

Kiss My Face makes a deodorant called Liquid Rock. It is made using no aluminum or paraben but taps into the power of potassium. It has three scents to try out. Dermalogical Environmental Control is another great aluminum-free alternative to conventional brands. It has a wonderful herbal concoction of parsley, hyssop, clove and rosemary to keep you fresh and odor-free all day long.

Thai Crystal is another alternative that is gaining popularity. It is what it sounds like, a crystal that is in spray or solid form. The company claims that Thai Crystals inhibit bacterial growth without aluminum, perfumes, oils or other harmful chemicals. One stick is said to last up to a year, saving lots of money in the long term.

Tom’s of Maine, another leader in eco-hygiene, has their line of natural deodorants. Hops fight odor-causing bacteria on your skin while other ingredients like chamomile and witch hazel sooth your skin. It has four scents to choose from so you smell good throughout the day.

With so many eco-friendly alternatives to chose from, it’s no wonder so many consumers are straying from harmful, conventional deodorants.
