Default Protecting The Rainforest

How can we protect the rainforest? Big companies can buy the land from governments and they can take all the resources from it including timber and precious minerals. Trees grow very slowly and it will be hard to replenish the trees that have been cut down by these companies.

Most of the places where this is a real issue is economically underprivileged countries, where the government will sell the land at a lower price than in a developed country. Raise the standard of living all around the world and you might lessen the burden on the rainforests, of course you'll also raise the prices of paper and other products made from the material, but that's a howl other problem.

I think this problem should be addressed directly and with careful planning. But without money and power you can't realy influence such huge companies and make them listen.

I agree with you. The problem with this is that companies have the money to pay good lawyer so that they can bend the rules enough for them to do what they want to. I guess we can't do anything with this anymore.

I think not only that these companies play legally extremely well but under the counter they bribe officials in every pore of society to achieve what they want.

That is the sad truth my friend unfortunately. I can't help by feel let down by a fellow human being. It seems that everything else is more important today than preserving our environment. What a shame.

I read that the main factor in the elimination of Latin America's rain forest is cattle grazing. In Central America, two-thirds of the rain forest has been cleared to raise cattle. So, eating less meat could be a good solution.
