CO2 to Carbon Monoxide and Then to Methanol and Gasoline
There is one interesting way to use CO2 and turn it into a useful product - use it to make gasoline. This is how it can be done:
"Using concentrated solar energy for power, a research team from Sandia National Laboratories is building a prototype device intended to chemically “reenergize” carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide using concentrated solar power. Carbon monoxide could then be used to serve as a building block to synthesize a liquid combustible fuel, such as methanol or even gasoline, diesel and jet fuel." Well, as they say, the devil is in the details. And as long as we do not have precise cost estimates for such a process, it is difficult to call it a practical breakthrough. All the same, it is interesting to note such novel concepts that have the potential to turn a problem into an opportunity. What do you think?
