Default Biofuels: Boon Or Bane?

While going through Bio Fuel I came upon a very interesting article which stunned me. It contradicts the popular belief that they reduce the amount of Co2. Growing those plants which will be used as biodiesel and ethanol release large quantity of nitrous oxide which is 300 times more potent that carbon dioxide as a green house gases.

This report of the Scientists working on behalf of the international Council of Science a Paris-based federation of scientific associations has issued a new report which states that the production of biofuels has increased rather than reduced global warming.

I think we need to know the truth. Please throw some light on this issue.

Here is a cute little article about a biofuel rivalry:

As if Minnesota and Wisconsin needed another friendly rivalry, two fuel retailers on opposite sides of the St. Croix River are holding a rush-hour special on E85, the ethanol-based fuel that can be used in flex fuel vehicles. The Freedom Valu Center at 210 S. Second St. in Hudson, Wisc. and the Holiday at 215 Manning Ave. N. in West Lakeland, Minn. will both be selling E85 at an 85 cents per gallon discount from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, May 27.
The promotions are supported by the Minnesota Corn Growers Association, Wisconsin Corn Growers Association, Holiday Companies, Erickson Oil, American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest and MN & WI Clean Air Choice Teams. Goldy Gopher, the University of Minnesota's beloved mascot, will be at the Holiday station from 4-5 p.m. Alice in Dairyland, Wisconsin's official agricultural ambassador, will be on hand at the Freedom Valu Center to greet customers during the event. Nafaka, the Minnesota Corn Growers Association mascot, will also be making an appearance at the Holiday station.
E85 fuel is intended for use in flex fuel vehicles only, and there is a 30 gallon limit per customer at each event. To see if your vehicle can use E85, or to learn more about E85 and biodiesel, visit American Lung Association Clean Air Choice.
