Default What are Greenhouse gases

Greenhouse gases can be defined as the gases that absorb and emit radiation within the thermal infrared range in an atmosphere. This is a fundamental process which causes the greenhouse effect.
The greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere include water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone. Greenhouse gases widely affect the temperature of the Earth. Without these gasses Earth's surface would be on average about 33°C (59°F) colder than at present.
