Default Cheap way to save money on water in the toilet

If you have an older toilet that wastes water but can't afford to get a new model, try this easy trick. Put a brick or a stone about that size in the tank (the back). It will displace some water so you use less each time you flush.

Living, this is a very good tip. However, I prefer using plastic containers, such as a two liter bottle. Bricks and stones will ultimately dissolve in the tank, possible clogging up the tanks' innards.

That's a great idea. The brick or the bottle (filled with water or sand?) will displace the water that is needed to fill up the tank. We'd use less water when we flush the toilet. Am going to implement that now.

That is a great idea!! I would have never thought of doing something like that. I will have to remember that one when my toilet becomes outdated.

I never heard of this before. Isn't a 2 litter bottle to big? Will the toilet flush completely? I like that this idea doesn't cost me an arm and a leg to implement.

Ya, this works! I fill a half a gallon container with water or pebbles or gravel. This simple technique can save water on each flush. This surely makes Mother Nature happy. Plus it saves you money as well because your water bill is reduced!
