Default Tips for Water Saving

• Make sure that your home is leak free. Water leaks are not only costly, but after time they can compromise a home's structural integrity. Go outside and read your water meter. Purposely avoid any (indoor or outdoor) water use for two to three hours. Then read your meter again. If the reading is not exactly the same, there are leaks present.
• Quickly repair even the smallest kitchen sink and bathroom sink faucet leaks. More times than not, only a wrench and a replacement washer are needed to stop the leak.
• Consider installing low flow faucet aerators on your kitchen and all of your bathroom sinks. Water saving faucet aerators significantly reduces flow rates while sustaining water pressure and they cost only a few bucks each.
• At all cost avoid flushing any of your toilets unnecessarily. Use trash cans to dispose of all paper waste instead of your toilets.
• Avoid running the water while shaving or brushing your teeth. While the amount of water wasted per day may be minimal, every gallon adds up very quickly.
• Wash dishes by hand instead of using an automatic dishwasher. Fill the sink with washing water, and then use the kitchen faucet to quickly rinse the dishes
• On average showers are responsible for most indoor water use. Consider shorting your showers even by just a few minutes each. This alone can save hundreds of gallons of water a year.

Water is very important for every living thing so saving water would become our responsibility. I am also want to share some more tips for saving water :
1) Run your clothes washer and dishwasher only when they are full.
2) Monitor your water bill for unusually high use.
3) Shorten your shower by a minute or two and you'll save up to 150 gallons per month.

You know how, when you get into the tub to take a shower or bath, how it takes awhile for the hot water to start coming through? Save that cold water in a clean bucket to use for cleaning, watering plants or whatever. No since letting it go down the drain.

This is a pretty neat idea. I never thought to check for leaks that way. Maybe it's one of the reasons why our water bill went up last month and this month, no matter how hard I monitor its use. Thanks for this tip!

I do another thing that helps me save water. I collect rain water in my backyard by always having a few open barrels. I find so many uses for this water, from watering my plants to washing the car (after filtering the water from bugs and dust particles of course).

That is a great idea there Swifty but remember to cover them when it is not rainy season as mosquitoes will live in them. What I love with rain water is that it is free.

Thanks! I do cover them, well, at least most the time. But I won't wait for long before I use that water so I don't worry about that.

Default Small daily gestures - Green living

Small daily gestures - Green living in your home

- Drink tap water, it prevents the transport of mineral water and plastic waste!
- Follow the recommended dose of detergent to wash your clothes or dishes.
- Use water from cooking your vegetables to chilled water your plants.
- Prefer showers to baths, which consume five times less water. It is possible to equip the shower flow restrictors or a shower-stop button to reduce the flow in the toilet.
Drinking water is only 3% of the total water available on the planet.
- Equipping water saving toilet flushing or variable flow to the toilet or put a brick in the tank to save water. Nearly one quarter of our daily consumption of water from the toilet!
- Watch leaky faucets, which can cause a significant increase in the invoice.
- Think recover rainwater for the garden using a water collector on the gutters into the garden or balcony.

I'll find you more tips for tomorrow!!!

I too find it very beneficial to collect rainwater in the backyard. There are a ton of things you can use it for. Garden, flowers, animals, clean car, wash windows, wash dog, wash cat, for the horses, etc...
