Default Benefits of Rainwater Harvesting

Being the ultimate need of the hour, rainwater harvesting is being increasingly practiced as a simple way of adding up to the natural water reserves. Some advantages of rainwater harvesting are as follows:

It is a simple & natural way of preserving water.
Fewer resources required to build more water reserves & dams.
Rainwater inlets can be made for use in toilets.
Cold rain water can be used for clothes in washing machine.
Individual efforts can contribute to it.
Rainwater can well be used for backyard garden or for normal domestic use.
Could the harvested rain water be ultimately used for drinking? Isn't there a process in which it can be filtered or treated in a natural and safe way? I am just wondering because with things the way they are, you never know when you might need to.

Filtering and purification are two different processes. First is used to filter larger organisms and filth from the water where second is using to kill all things that can harm you. You can surely do both at home.
