Default Bamboo Cloth Isn't Eco Friendly?

I was reading a source on the internet the other day, saying that bamboo cloth isn't eco-friendly because they have to use so many chemicals to process it into a usable form for cloth. I have been using bamboo yarn to do summer projects with because I thought it was "greener" than the processed cotton. Now I hear it may not be. Does anyone know anything about this?

Yes, they have to process the bamboo to the point that it's no longer an environmentally friendly product. Generally they use sodium hydroxide and carbon disulfide, as well as bleach. Organic cotton is probably a better choice.

I didn't think of the processing that would be involved with natural products in order to make them suitable for clothing or whatever else they might be used for. That just shows that we have to be careful of the processing they go through when selecting natural products. The processing can make an otherwise environmentally-friendly product into one that's not so friendly.

That is very disappointing to hear. I thought anything that was made from natural or recycled products would automatically be eco-friendly, but I guess not. That is a shame.

You have to be careful to make sure things you use that you think are environmentally friendly, aren't anymore because they've been processed to death. I hate to hear this about bamboo cloth because I really liked the feel of it. I guess back to cotton I will go.

Today's market can be a bit tricky when it comes to "green" products. A lot of companies know that green item are in high demand and will take advantage of their customers because of that. Giving an item a green appearance will help to increase sales and they use this tactic to exploit their customers for profit. Make sure you do your research will any product you are looking to buy.

That's a downright shame! You really do have to do your homework to find out what is really green and what is just portrayed as being green. We just all have to be careful of what we buy and not let the claims of the company sway us. Scratch the surface and you may find out all sorts of things.
