Default DIY Sunshade

We have a front porch that doesn't do much in the afternoon to shade the house and it really gets hot in the house. So this year, we are going to plant Wisteria vines on by every porch post to try to get some organic sun shades going. I think they'll be the prettiest sun shades on the block!

I have always been intrigued by the houses that have plants growing on the actual structure. It worries me that it may degrade the walls, columns, roofs, etc. Is this possible?

We have similar plans. We built a pergola for our back patio and planted confederate jasmine. Hopefully it will make a lovely natural living roof.

Mmmmmmm, jasmine. I would guess that any type of plant would affect the structure to some extent. Look at what happens when they remove english ivy that is growing on houses. There is residual roots they cannot remove.

Sounds like a wonderful way to shade a porch! I love jasmine and wisteria. It would be so nice to come out on the porch and smell the lovely flowers that bloom there. Nice sunshade.
