Default Reclaimed Desk

The other day on Craigslist, I happened to come across a nice office desk for just $50. I think more people need to do this, instead of always buying new. This desk is perfect, minus one small scratch on the side. I can fix that with a little brown shoe polish.

This is something I am very big on. My desk is something that someone we knew was throwing out to the trash. The only thing wrong with it is that it's missing the keyboard pullout. Big deal and easily fixable. I have had very few new pieces of furniture as I think it's a waste of money when I can get cast-offs and redo them.

You would be surprised how little is required to turn something that was considered an old table into a brand new one. Simple sand paper and paint will do the trick. Saving both money and environment in one step.

Where I live is a trash picker's paradise...being a summer town, we see tons of great stuff put on the side of the road every year around Labor Day. Of course, we see it through the summer, as well, as the weeklies leave stuff behind, but the best is in the fall. I've redone tons of bureaus and tables and other great stuff. My house is furnished with it as well as most of the people I know. I also donate leftover stuff to organizations that can see that people who really need it get it.

It's absolutely a shame that people do this. I cannot imagine throwing away a piece of furniture simply because it's got a small scratch on it. You can certainly tell our house has been lived in.

My favorite activity in the spring and summer in addition to growing my organic garden, is going to yard sales. I buy anything they have that I can use. It makes me feel great to get the bargains, while helping to recycle used items and helping the environment by saving good items from the landfill.

Craigslist is awesome! We got a really nice office chair on there for only $15! Not even Walmart can come close that price and it looks and feels brand new. Craigslist is a great way to reuse products and to go green!

Use something until you use it up. I think it's horrible that people don't use things until they get used up. I think there are a lot of things I could do with a nice desk. I use a dresser in a part of my closet to save on space in my small, small bedroom.
