Default Best Green Furniture Materials

Does anyone have any ideas about the best green materials to look for in furniture? Recycled wood? Pine? Plastic

I suggest bamboo and recycled wood as the best green materials for furniture. Plastic furnitures are not necessarily recycled. There are plenty of furnitures made of bamboo or rattan which are more beautiful and lasting.

Yeah, I would think mostly anything made from wood or anything that is made from natural materials. I try to stay away from plastics, as they take forever to disintegrate and clog up landfills.

I agree with Josh. I try to pick furniture made of wood or steel. Both lasts for years and years. When the piece of furniture wears out, the steel can be recycled and the wood will naturally decompose.

Bamboo and rattan are a good materials for furniture because they don't take ages to grow unlike oakwood, teakwood, narra wood, etc. But bamboo and rattan don't last as long as these woods mentioned. Anyway, as long as we use raw or natural materials it is always better.

I know it's not stylish but we have some of the old wooden furniture that was built to last. We usually recover the cushions when they need it but I've had it since the 1970's.

My husband makes furniture articles from reclaimed old barn wood. They made some of the most beautiful items you have ever seen. He has made shelves, kitchen cupboards, benches, chairs, and a lot of other pieces. He just goes around and asks if the barn wood can be harvested and people usually just give him what he wants. It's very nice to be able to recycle the beautiful old wood like this.

Wood, bamboo, and rattan definitely top the list of organic materials for furniture. With the Go Green advocacies gaining popularity, some industrial designers are actually using these eco-friendly materials in creating contemporary pieces. They have good reasons for doing such. Furniture made from organic materials are long-lasting and are natural-looking.

I agree. Wood, rattan, and bamboo are natural and eco-friendly. We have many antique pieces of wood furniture in our house; reusing wood is great for the environment.
