I 've heard that computerizing your home can save energy. Has anyone done this yet?

Do you mean wiring your home electrical system so it can be controlled from your desktop or laptop comptuer?

Judy 05-14-2010 10:23 AM

I've heard of companies controlling their electrical system from their computers. I don't know about at home systems. But I'm sure they exist.

Here is an article about the cost advantages (and energy savings) that landlords can realize through home automation:

Landlords encouraged to roll out home automation

A technology expert has said that home automation offers many advantages to an existing property.

Engineer Andy Stanford-Clark, a visiting professor at the University of Newcastle, said that home automation is about having infrastructure in place.

This will result in the creation of a "home hub", he explained, which can then be added to as and when owners wish.

"So, you start off with something, like the energy monitoring, and then you build it out as new things occur to you or as more things become available to you," Mr Stanford-Clark added.

"It can possibly be linked into the set top box or part of a smart meter, or the phone answering machine – there are lots of things that can potentially be built into it."

Recent analysis from ABI Research revealed that home automation technologies can help landlords reduce power usage in their properties.

In addition, the report said that revenue from the systems is likely to exceed £7.77 billion over the next five years.

I personally feels that now it is the time to change our mentality and work for the betterment of our environment . Do you heard of wooden skyscrapers? This will almost be the newest global question, since a brand new cacao factory in Indonesia built its very first headquarters made entirely out of bamboo, and half powered by plant oil. In the near future, they will be using solar paneling to take their manufactured bars completely off the grid. Their bamboo structure is very strong and resilient, and they have no reason to think that will not last for many years into the future. :)
