Default Tips for cars to go green

Slow down

Fact: Cars are more efficient at slower speeds.
Driving at 50mph uses 25% less fuel than at 70mph. You can improve your efficiency even more by braking and accelerating gently and using high gears. Also have you car serviced regularly.

Fit a fuel saver

By fitting a fuel saving device into the fuel line that feeds your car engine you can reduce emissions of polluting gases by 40% and save at least 10% on your fuel costs. You can fit them onto any vehicle so even if you have an energy efficient car you can still make it greener. Once installed you can forget about them, and they will last for one millions miles of driving.

Check your tires

Keeping your tires inflated properly can improve gas mileage by more than 3%. Every gallon of gasoline saved keeps 20 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere!

New car?

When buying a new car, why not do your bit for the environment and get a highly efficient model, or even an eco-friendly car, electric or hybrid. You don't have to pay the congestion charge in London.

Air Filter

There are parts on a car that you can check and maintain that will help you to save money and energy on fuel. For starters, a clean air filter can help a great deal. You don’t even have to take it in to get it checked, it can be done at home. Hold the filter into the sunlight and if it is not see-through, then it’s time for a new one.

I suggest investing in a new hybrid car, they're much better than the older ones from 2007 and before

I have actually been looking for one among the ones available. I tend to favor the hybrids as there are times when you may not be able use the electric exclusively all of the time.

The only thing about a new hybrid is that they're so expensive. For the price, I can buy 2 very fuel efficient, very low emissions Honda Fits, Toyota Yaris', or Scions. I'm just not ready to spend $30K for a small car.

A question about the above too. If you have the fuel saving device fitted to your car, does it affect performance of the car at all? I would like to do this since I can't afford to get a new vehicle at present.
