Wink Old Clothes

We give away old usable clothes to some people who want them or need them. We don't have to go far in our place, especially with the economic downturn. The torn ones, we recycle as rags or potholders, hand towels, etc.

This is brilliant, Mowgli. Many people don't have the luxury of buying new clothes and getting them free is such a blessing for them. Meanwhile, rather than buying disposable rags, reusing them would save you some money instead.

I have always done this. I guess it was a gift from my frugal parents. They used everything until it was used up. Then when it was used up or worn out, it was used for something else. We also gave good clothing that was no longer needed to family or to neighbors who could use them.

I both buy and donate good used clothing to a local thrift shop that is run for local charities. When items are torn or beyond repair, I take off and save any buttons or extras, then use the item as a rag until it completely wears through.

Yeah, this only makes sense. Many people, when they decide they no longer want an article of clothing, will just throw it away in the daily trash, not thinking about all the people who might want to wear it.

I can't imagine throwing away perfectly good things. But then my wife says I'm a pack rat. We always go to thrift shops to find things first. If we can't find things that we need there, we go will go to the store but only then. I can't stand to pay good money for things that may be acquired for a fraction of the cost.

We fill a bag every few months or so and place it in front of our lawn. There are many drifters that come and take it. These are surely people that need clothes the most.

I usually turn my old clothing into rags. You never know when you might need some extra fabric to soak up a huge spill! Not only are you saving money, but you're also helping the environment by not purchasing paper towels.

Though, I do tend to leave the nice stuff that no longer fits in tact. This is usually donated to a thrift store

Just a few weeks ago, I did a major closet cleaning, and identified which clothes I don't wear anymore. I gave some to family members and some people in the neighborhood who don't make a fuss about wearing hand-me-downs...I still have a few pieces which I'm planning to donate to the child welfare center near our community...And yes, we always use old clothings as rags or kitchen towels so no need to buy a lot of those disposable rugs!

We do the same thing. I usually will give clothes away that I don't like anymore, but most of my clothes I will wear for years until they are unwearable.

I don't know if I am doing the right thing, but when they do become unwearable for anyone, I throw them in the recycle bin. Is that not something I should do? I just assumed it could be recycled.
