Post Save the Bags!...

A few of you may be the same way I used to be with reusable shopping bags. Buy a couple, put them in the pantry, and use them once a month (for non-shopping needs).

Well, here is a little tip that I started using:
Keep your reusable bags in your car. It will actually help. Here is what I did. I bought a total of four of the large reusable bags, put all four in my car and try to fit as much as I can into a bag when I shop. This way, once I get home I don't have to take all of the bags out of my trunk and if I forget to put the ones I used back in my car I still have one or two in there.

Please use reusable bags....
Have you noticed how grocery baggers only put one or two item in each bag and you end up leaving with about 20? It's crazy!!!

Side note:
If you stop at the store or a gas station to buy only a few items that are not too hard to carry, please don't let them bag it. I seems like everyone wants to bag my 16oz. soda these days. Spare a bag.... Your car is just right there.

Anyway, thanks for reading my little rant. The reason I decided to write this is because on my way home tonight, a woman in line at the convenience store gave the clerk attitude for not “double bagging her two liter soda”…. ? Are you serious, ma’am? Is what I wanted to jump in and say, but I held my tongue (it’s a double edged sword ya know?).
So, as the clerk ****ily quadrupled the lady’s single 'TWO LITER' soda, I felt a rant coming on. Whew….I feels better…

Thanks again everyone…….

Wow, that bagger was crazy! Does she hate the environment or something? I try not to use bags if I can by using my reusable bags (although I tend to forget to put them back in my car later) or by carrying my items back to the car (if I only get one or two items).

However, I do need the bags to pick up the dog poop because I don't have a backyard and to get my dog to poop I need to walk her for at least 30 minutes. If I left her poop on the ground all the time, then it would be just as bad for the environment because it could go down to the ocean (plus it is gross).

I wish there was bio-degradable poop bags that dog owners could buy (that are not anymore expensive then the other poop bags they sell at the store for dogs).

That's horrible! Some people just have no clue. I watch the baggers and won't let them bag my cat litter, bleach, vinegar, laundry detergent or anything else that comes in a container that can just as easily be carried by itself. They will all do it unless you ask.

Funny you should mention bio-degradable poop bags. I just started buying mine from poopbags.com. They are a little pricey, but I figure it is worth it if I want to do my part.

Some baggers really seem not to care about the number of plastic bags being used daily...I have had the same observation in the supermarket where I always do my food shopping. They don't put as many items as the plastic bag can hold. Instead they use a separate bag for items that can actually fit in the first bag...This is why I bring reusable bags whenever I shop. Plus, these bag earn me some points which I can use to redeem some prize items.

Default Baggers...

It is really too bad that they do this, but I think a lot of the reasoning can be attributed to the customers who don't care about the environment. I used to work in a retail store about 2 years and when I would bag items, I would try to shove as much as I could into one bag. The problem was that on several occasions a customer would actually yell and complain that I put their cereal in the same bag as their hair brush (those were the exact items, how could I forget?). It was quite embarrassing and it happened more often than you would think, so eventually I started using more bags than I probably should have, just to avoid arguments.

I'm sure that's part of the problem, Michy Luv. It's just that people don't care a lot of times. I always ask them to make sure they don't use any more bags than necessary. I use my bags a lot of the time but sometimes I forget so I just ask if they will decrease the amount the use as much as they can. I also bring the plastic bags back to a local recycling center for reuse or recycling.

I absolutely love reusable shopping bags. Keeping them at the ready in the car was the secret to getting in the habit of using them all the time for me.

Exclamation Friendly Tip!

Did you know that most local grocer's have recycling bis for old plastic bags? It's true, but more often than not the bin is out of sight. So next time you go shopping, don't forget to ask if they have a bag bin!...

I've seen these bins at Kroger's and Dollar Tree. The're big green bins with a square hole cut in the top to drop your old bags in. I think maybe Publix has them too....
