Default Encouraging News for Recycling!

A lot of people all over the country try their best to do their part to recycle and take care of the environment, but there are some that don't. Here's some encouraging news for the recycling industry to help keep positive attitudes:
California has the highest recycling and composting rates in the nation, at over 77 percent in 2008, and now a local California man based in Stockton, California has a great, new idea.
WINE BOTTLE RECYCLING! It's a very widespread concept over in Europe, but no one in the United States seems to do it. Bruce Stephens founded Wine Bottle Renew. His company collects used bottles, sanitizes them, and sells them back to wineries. The company is still getting going, they only retain, sanitize, and sell back 20 percent of the bottles they collect, but at least they are making strides. Not only is this an eco-friendly endeavor, but it makes sense for the wineries, too. They can buy back the used bottles for 20-40 percent less than new bottles cost.

That is good news indeed. But bad news for the manufacturers of wine bottles! I just wish they would recycle other bottles and glass jars too. We collect too many at home.

That's one of the big issues. If we don't have a convenient way to recycle, most people won't. That's the shame of it. We DO have a community recycling plant but they don't take a lot of things. They only take two types of plastic to recycle. But I guess they do what they can and I'm hoping they will eventually be able to take more and more.

Default Awesome!

I remember when I was a little kid, I used to like collecting bottles of soft drinks and sell them back to the shop. They were such a profitable hobby for me. During those times, pop sodas used recyclable glass bottles and stores did charge more for the bottles which encouraged or compelled people to return the bottles. It was like a deposit for the bottles so if you take them back to the shop you will get your money back. Unfortunately, they now use disposable plastic bottles. I wish they would do it again just like what they are doing for this wine bottles.
