What Kind of Transportation Should a Green Resort Have?

Though we are a mobile society, being mobile doesn’t mean we have to make our planet suffer in the process. As the concept of green travel becomes increasingly popular, the use of green transport has also gained popularity particularly as the main mode of transport in green resorts.

First of all, it is important to know what green transport is. Green transport is a term used to refer to any mode of sustainable transport that doesn’t have a big impact to the environment. Green transport includes animal or human muscle-powered vehicles, low-carbon fueled vehicles as well as any other types of transport that use renewable sources of energy.

One of the most common forms of green transportation which is now being used in green resorts is the hybrid vehicle. A hybrid vehicle uses a regular internal combustion engine and an electric engine. Bio-fuel powered vehicles are now also very common in green resorts. This type of vehicle uses bio-fuels such as biodiesel, vegetable oil or bio-alcohol for propulsion.

However, aside from the common green transportation methods, green resorts also encourage other green forms of motion such as bicycling. Bicycling or cycling is the use of bicycles to move from one place to another. This is also classified as a green vehicle or mode of green transportation since it is not harmful to our environment compared to the conventional vehicle.

Other transportation methods used in green resorts include the following:

• A solar vehicle – this type of vehicle is powered by renewable energy, particularly solar energy acquired from solar panels generally on the roof or other surfaces of the vehicle. PV or photovoltaic cells directly convert the energy of the sun into electrical energy. Solar vehicles are commonly found in green resorts but are not a practical daily transportation device used at the present time.
   
• Wind-powered vehicle – this type of vehicle uses wind turbines primarily installed at a certain point of the vehicle wherein the wind energy is converted directly into electric energy, thereby causing the vehicle to run.
   
• Electric car – this type of green vehicle uses motor controllers and electric motors instead of ICE or internal combustion engine. In most cases, the electric power used by electric cars is derived from the battery pack carried by the vehicle on board. Electric cars may also use other methods of energy storage such as ultra-capacitors.
