1) Portland, Oregon
A constant recipient of several sustainability and green awards, Portland, Oregon has recently been given the highest points in the Popular Science's ranking of the America's 50 Greenest Cities. It was also the first city in the United States to adopt the Global Warming Action Plan, and presently 50% of the energy the system consumes is renewable. Its bike-friendly culture, green building commitments and strict zoning laws have helped the city avoid some environment degradations that have already afflicted other cities.
