Recycled Plastic Furniture
We all know the virtues of recycling. Now, recycling can take on a whole new perspective with the anticipation of what it can be used for after it is recycled. It makes interesting and very eco-friendly furniture. This furniture is available for both indoor and outdoor use.
We are recycling more than ever before. The overall MSW recycling rate from the EPA http://www.epa.gov/ was 32% in 2005 including 34% for PET plastic soft drink bottles and 29% for HDPE milk and water bottles. In 2006, 812 million pounds of plastic bags and film were recycled in the United States, up 24% from 2005. Recycled plastic bags can be made into a wide range of second generation products, including durable building and construction products, low maintenance fencing and decks, and of course, new bags.
Recycled plastic furniture is good business. Recycled plastic furniture companies have a fantastic selection of house wares, outdoor products and other random gear all made from recycled plastic. Many of the outdoor products are designed to look like wood, and do a reasonable job of reproducing the color, to give that "natural" feel. Because it’s plastic you never have to worry about waterproofing, splintering or staining. They use HDPE (high density polyethylene, commonly known as #2 plastic), which is one of the most common types of discarded plastic, so it doesn't look like they'll be running short on materials any time soon. Other companies offer custom design and are American made. The furniture is strong and durable and won't warp over time and won't blow around in the wind. It can be custom made to look like real wood or in a variety of colors that will never fade.
There are many options for recycled plastic in furniture. Pick a plastic piece of furniture and green up your home!
