Highlighting a Green Architect: organicARCHITECT
organicARCHITECT was created by Eric Corey Freed in 1997. EnviroCitizen.org has found that they have a very different approach to architecture than most green architectural firms. They choose people, not projects. They focus on their clients at all times while providing green designs. They are dedicated to educating other architects on how to be green. They teach their protege how to create rather than creating for them.
Founder Eric Corey Freed is a highly sought after public speaker and he happily stands behind his firm commitment to education. He teaches and lectures frequently, attending approximately 50 speaking events each year. organicARCHITECT supports the vitality of the community of the San Francisco Bay Area as well as in the Palm Springs, California area, advising numerous non-profit organizations.
Freed is also an author. His first book, Green Building for Dummies won critical acclaim. He has several other books, such as The Inevitable Architect: A Phase-by-Phase Guide to Green Architecture (which will help other architects to implement green design into their work), Sustainable Schools and Green Homes Green Pockets. The people at organicARCHITECT focus a significant amount of energy researching innovative and green materials. They go one step further and even distribute their research free to the public.
Freed is more than a distinguished architect and author. He is committed to a lifestyle of sustainability. He promotes both an organic and eco-friendly approach to design projects and tries to create unique designs rather than following popular trends. He was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated with honors from Temple University College of Architecture, having fulfilled his life-long dream of becoming an architect (his dream beginning at the age of 8). Freed concentrated on Urban Design in Rome, Italy. He is known to many as “one of the real brains of his generationâ€.
Freed teaches Sustainable Design curriculum at the Academy of Art University and Certificate Program at University of California at Berkeley. He was a Founding Chair of Architecture for the San Francisco Design Museum. Freed is on the Board of Directors of Architects, Designers and Planners for Social Responsibility (NorCal ADPSR), as well as the Natural World Museum. Freed is also the co-founder of ecoTECTURE: The Online Journal of Ecological Design.
EnviroCitizen.org has been told that organicARCHITECT is quite possible the greenest architectural firm in the entire country. They are firmly committed to sustainability and the idea that buildings simply must be green. They aim to make the greenest, most sustainable buildings possible. Their research and architectural designs are paving the road toward a sustainable future that is filled with smart designs that incorporate our own needs and desires with the natural world around us. If you're in California, you may want to look these guys up for your next home project. You won't be disappointed!
