Green Wedding Centerpieces
EnviroCitizen.org wants your special day to be everything you have dreamed of and more—plus green! Green wedding centerpieces are a great alternative to traditional centerpieces and come in a wide variety that can compliment just about any wedding theme. Centerpieces need not remain limited to traditional flowers! There are so many wonderful options that are both beautiful and eco-friendly.
A few helpful Dos and Don'ts :
- If you choose to use flowers try to keep them at a minimum.
- Fresh cut flowers are not as good for the environment as one may imagine, so you may wanted to consider other flower alternatives.
- If you have to have decided to use fresh cut flowers, opt for organic flowers.
- If you feel comfortable choosing an alternative to fresh cut flowers, try potted plants. These can be used as
beautiful as traditional centerpieces, but are much better for the environment.
- Stay away from flowers or plants that have been treated with herbicide !
- Try something different—try silk or dried flower centerpieces.
Green wedding centerpieces include choices other than flowers, which is something that may intrigue many people. A popular option is a potted herb garden. An herb smells good, is very attractive and does not harm the environment. You should also pay attention to the types of products used for the centerpiece holders. If it is possible, try to use recycled glass pieces or terra cotta pieces. Woven baskets of various reeds and plants can be a beautiful option as well. To keep your centerpiece green it is important to research how renewable the basket materials are and who is making them. Try to purchase locally whenever possible !
Since people are open to centerpieces other than flower-related centerpieces. EnviroCitizen.org has noticed that green wedding centerpieces are getting quite creative!
The following are four beautiful arrangements that are considered to be green :
- Select a clear bowl. Fill the bottom half with local rocks and cover them with a thin layer of water. Artistically place a few long reeds into the middle of the bowl. Definitely an eye-catcher.
- Select a basil plant. This plant should be on the taller side. Place seed wedding favors on top of the basil leaves for a whimsical effect. These favors can be taken home by guests and planted !
- Select a recycled clear glass vase. Choose one flower per table. Fill the vase halfway and then place the flower inside the vase. Slowly fill the remainder of the vase with water, making sure the water fills the remainder of the vase. The flower (don’t forget it should be organic) will stay suspended within the water, displaying its natural beauty. A nice addition is to place recycled glass stones or local rocks at the bottom of the vase.
- Try filling a recycled bamboo or glass vessel with local, brightly colored rocks or seashells. Fill vessel to the top with water, which will display the inner contents and allow them to easily catch the light.
Whether you would like to create your own green wedding centerpieces or purchase things that do not require assembly (such as potted plants), EnviroCitizen.org has a number of fabulous options that work as green wedding centerpieces! |
