Unless you're equipped with the right kind of eco-friendly travel gear, it's futile to even attempt for a zero-carbon day out while you're on the road. In order to accomplish this, EnviroCitizen.org has found that you need the right gear and that's just what we have for you today.
It's easy to deviate from your green lifestyle when you're out and about, whether it's takeout containers or simply the fact that you're traveling (and that means increasing your carbon footprint), but there are ways to improve your odds of keeping your eco-friendly track record clean such as carrying green travel accessories. Green travel accessories can mean a camera case made from recycled content instead of one made of conventional synthetic materials or a sun-blocking hat made entirely from sustainable bamboo. Whatever the particular item is, the point is that you're opting for a greener good.
Here's a list of travel gear items that might come in handy in your fight against the omnipresent evil of carbon consumption.
1) Solar Charger - Even President Barack Obama has a Solio Classic. Considering getting one to reduce your energy consumption
2) Water Bottle - Stop buying bottled water and get yourself a nice and clean water bottle which you can fill up soon as you get off a flight or reach a rest stop. You can find many lists of eco-friendly water bottles, which includes our personal favorite - Klean Kanteen (no BPA).
3) Food & Snacks - Don't feel prepared unless you've packed food? Remember to use eco-friendly, reusable wraps or pouches (wrap-n-mat) and stock up on your favorite brand of organic snack bars and drinks.
4) Camping - If you're going camping and want to be absolutely zero-carbon, then here's what you need in addition to all the aforementioned gear.
- Solar Tent – Consider a tent such as the Eureka Solar Intent Tent (LED lighting and battery charger) or WingnutGear.
- LNT Products - Leave no Trace (think of it as potty training for campers) is the latest in eco-etiquette for the outdoors. The way it works is that you pack the necessary gear, including biodegradable ‘no trace' bags and tissue, and avoid polluting fresh streams. Get your LNT training before you set foot in the wild.
Of course there are other items such as eco-friendly luggage, organic clothing and biodegradable towels & soap, too. EnviroCitizen.org suggests that you do some research or consult an environmentalist that has experience with green travel when it comes to learning what to bring along on your green excursions.
