Toilet training can be a very difficult and frustrating period of development for both parents and children. It also is an area that many wish to make more eco-friendly. Awareness of diaper products has driven many to pursue greener options in diapers. The same can also be applied to toilet training supplies.
The toilet to train on itself can be a good place to begin. One great product being offered is the Baby Bjorn potty chair. Baby Bjorn products only contain materials that have been thoroughly tested for any possible side effects. Baby Bjorn does not use chemical additives such as bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates, lead or chlorine. In addition, their plastics are also PVC free and completely recyclable! The chair comes in a very good design for comfort and safety. Baby Bjorn also sells a simple, portable traditional training toilet as well.
When the child is ready to use a regular toilet, there are lots of green options for seats to help them use the toilet safely. Baby Bjorn offers a very soft and safe cover. Eco-friendly bamboo covers are also a wonderful way to go as well. Bamboo, classified as a grass, is a renewable and sustainable resource and a viable and economical alternative to cutting down forests for wood.
For a green spin on the traditional pullups, there are new products available to parents. Training pants are now coming in organic cotton and bamboo varieties. At a fraction of the cost of what you would spend on disposable pull-ups, these do not mask wetness and are an eco-friendly alternative. There are disposable options as well. Nature Babycare diapers and training pants are completely chlorine-free and keep oil-based plastics away. Their absorbent pulp is made from sustainably harvested Scandinavian forests. They also feature a channel in the middle which means a less bulky fit with leak protection. Since they use 60% natural materials instead of plastic, their diapers and pull-on training pants are soft and cloth-like, providing comfort without sacrificing quality. These are made in Europe and meet the requirements of the Swedish society for Nature Conservation and the World Conservation Union, which are very strictly folllowed.
There are wet wipes as well that offer the benefit of being eco-friendly. Nature Babycare has award winning wipes that are not only biodegradable, but are now flushable!  They are made of sustainably harvested unbleached wood pulp and are moistened with water and natural aloe vera, making them as good for your baby as they are for the environment. The wipes follow the same standards as the other products in that they are made from completely natural materials and are chlorine-free. The packaging film is based on natural chalk and is compostable. They do not contain alcohol or any other harsh ingredients. Nature babycare flushable wipes are sized for small hands. They won an award in 2007 from Mother & Baby Magazine (UK).
EnviroCitizen.org knows that making toilet training green is a definite possibility that anyone can do now. Most of these products can be bought at an eco-retailer or online at places such as EnviroCitizen.org.
