Green Resort Technology
Green resorts should have every renewable resource available to them. This includes but is not limited to: wind power, solar power, thermal power, as well as organic, natural, and nearby surrounding natural resources. These sources of energy take the strain off of the environment as well as procuring positive power for the green resort. Here are some of the technologies in use at the greenest resorts.
Wind Power
A wind turbine is a machine which uses rotating to convert the kinetic energy of wind into mechanical energy. If the mechanical energy is used directly by machinery, the machine is then called a windmill. If the mechanical energy is then converted into electricity, the machine is then called a wind generator, wind power unit, or wind energy converter.
Wind turbines require locations with high, constant winds. Wind resource assessment allows it to be possible to estimate the amount of energy that wind turbine in a particular location will be capable of producing.
Wind turbines produce turbulence behind them, with the turbine usually pointed upwind of the tower. Because of this the turbine blades are made of stiff and strong material to prevent the blades from being pushed into the tower by high winds. The blades are also placed a safe distance from the tower, and are tilted upwards a slight amount to avoid further dangers.
Wind turbines can be placed on-shore, off-shore, or on land. Whether or not they are used at your green resort depends on the location.
Solar Power
Solar Power has recently blossomed as an industry, with increases 48% every two years on average.
Solar energy can be used to power small and medium sized applications. The energy itself is 100% renewable and is considered to be a long term investment which benefits the consumer and the environment. Solar power leaves zero by products for the environment. Solar panels collect and store the energy from sunlight. This means that while rainy or cloudy days may put a damper on storing extra energy, it does not mean that your power will immediately run out. In actuality, the energy harnessed by solar panels can be used for future requirements.
Solar power can be used anywhere there is direct sunlight. The solar collector does not have to be attached to the building the electricity is being used at but it simplifies the effort and is far less costly. This can be used by any green resort.
Thermal Power
Thermal energy arises by the heating of molecules. Solar thermal energy is defined as either low, medium or high, and each can be used for energy conversion. Low temperature thermal collectors are generally flat plates used to heat bodies of water such as swimming pools. Medium-temperature collectors are also flat plates. However, these use thermal energy to create hot water for both residential and commercial use. High temperature collectors use sunlight, mirrors, and lenses for electric power production.
Thermal energy uses the contrast between higher temperatures and lower temperatures to perform. Heat always flows from hot to cold. Thermal materials such as stone, concrete, and water store the high temperatures during the day, and release them when the temperature is cooler. This means that thermal energy can create comfortable temperatures and conditions. This can also be implemented at any green resort.
Green resorts today have options for alternative green energy. Depending on the surrounding geography many, if not all, options would be available. |
