Green Built North Texas

     Green Built North Texas is a voluntary partnership of local home builders, industry supporters, and sponsors committed to creating awareness and interest in the construction of higher-performance, lower-impact residential homes in Texas. The program has a strict construction protocol that Home Builder Association (HBA) members have deemed essential in order for a home to be recognized by the program. Homes built to this protocol conform to higher standards of site management and waste recycling, water efficiency, indoor air quality, energy efficiency, materials, and homeowner education.

     Membership in Green Built North Texas (GBNT) is open to both Builder and Associate members of the Home Builders Associations in the State of Texas. Through special events and media outreach, the HBA endeavors to make homebuyers more aware of its green building program and its participants. Green Built Texas also provides educational seminars and is affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) National Green Building Program. Its certification processes offer an alternative method to Green Built North Texas recognition. A similar agreement with the U.S. Green Building Council enables homes built to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Homes (LEED-H) protocol to enjoy the same benefit. What sets GBNT apart from other entities with similar goals is that they employ a verification process. This cost-effective verification process will further the HBA’s goal of firmly establishing GBNT as a viable above-code building strategy in North Central Texas, and as one of the nation’s premier green building programs. The Home Energy Raters and engineering firms that sign an agreement to serve as GBNT verifiers will provide the HBA with the information needed to populate the nation’s first interactive online registry of green built homes. This home registry, which is now under development, will enable consumers to locate Green Built North Texas builders and projects that are under construction or completed in their area. Once this is completed, the consumer will know for sure that their home is truly energy efficient.

     With strong participation from both builders and verifiers, Green Built North Texas has the potential to become one the nation’s best green building programs while providing a unique service to all of its members. GBNT is setting the standard for providing invaluable information about green home construction as well as information about existing green homes.
