The bathroom is the place in your home that most likely uses the most water. There are ways to change this, however, which may benefit you, your wallet and the Earth. Here are a few tips on going green in the bath.
Change your showerhead. There are two kinds that can be used to conserve water, a low-flow and air shower. The low-flow does just what it says, it uses less water by having a lower flow. An air shower device can be attached to your existing showerhead. It pumps each water droplet full of air. This makes each water droplet bigger, so it feels just as wet and strong as a typical showerhead while using less water. Studies show that air showers can cut your water use by an additional 30%. They also clean just as well because they use pressure to help power the air and water mix. There are wonderful water-conserving fixtures that even massage your body while in the shower so you feel relaxed and fresh when you get out.
Use dispensing containers that are refillable for soaps and such is a great way to go green. Pumps are an easy fixture that fit in almost every shower. You will save a bit on packaging as you won't have to keep buying bottles of soap, shampoos and other commonly used shower items in small quantities. Another benefit is that you can get more use out of your products since most conventional containers are designed in a way that causes you to waste the product. This is a very inexpensive fix that helps save you money and helps conserve resources.
Recycled glass is perfect for mirrors, window panes and decorative items. Ceramic tiles that adorn the walls around your bath and sink areas can do the same as well. Just make sure you seal them up carefully with an eco-friendly sealant if they are free-standing, such as mirrors. It secures them well, but also prevents mildew and other damage. Glass never breaks down, but is a substance that becomes easier to recycle every time it is used again, so it can be reused over and over again. There are many eco-friendly fixes like these.
The best thing that any eco-conscious consumer can do in combination with bathroom fixtures is to watch their habits. Turning off the water whenever possible saves water because none is used unnecessarily. EnviroCitizen.org has found that it is easy to practice little habits that will make the bathroom a greener place. It will be also a way to save money, too!
