There are various types of energy efficient lighting. The most popular include energy star light bulbs, LED light bulbs, and CFL light bulbs.
CFL LIGHTS
o CFL bulbs, also referred to as compact fluorescent light or energy saving light, is a type of fluorescent lamp. They differ from the traditional incandescent lamp and come in a swirled bulb form instead of the traditional bulb. They are made to replace the incandescent lamp. They fit into most light fixtures but are pin design in comparison to other incandescent designs.
o The pin designed bulbs can be used with most designs, such as designs by energy star, or older lamps. With the use of power strips, they can be used with any lamp, and will still maintain their long lifespan. CFL light bulbs give out the same amount of life, but use less power, have a longer rated life, but a higher purchase price. While the price is higher, they are estimated to use one fourth of the amount of energy, and pay themselves off within 500 hours of use. Their estimated lifespan is about 10,000 years.
o CFL lights radiate a different life spectrum. They have improved subjected color with the use of phosphor formulations, and save 30 dollars per CFL. CFLs also save 2,000 times their own weights in greenhouse gases. This means that your wallet will save some money, and your atmosphere will continue to work for you and future generations.
o The lifespan of a CFL is a good reason to use it. The average life is 8 to 15 times longer than that of a traditional incandescent light bulb with a lifespan averaging at 10,000 hours, but lasting up to 15,000 hours. Incandescent bulbs have a lifespan of only 750 to 1,000 hours.
ENERGY STAR LIGHTING
o Energy star decorative lighting isn’t limited to pin-based light bulbs. They are also available in fluorescent products, in the form of chandeliers, pendants, wall sconces, vanity bath lights, ceiling mounted fixtures, recessed cans, outdoor lanterns, and also compact and circular line lamps.
o Energy star decorative lighting is designed and tested to withstand heat. This means that they are texted to make sure they do not exceed maximum temperature in the bulb ballast. These dedicated light bulbs are dedicated fixtures, designed to manage the heat and keep the ballast operating at its optimum.
o Energy star decorative light bulbs maintain color consistency as and are positively aesthetic in other ways as well. Energy Star fixtures are based around pin based bulbs- the bulbs do not protrude beyond decorative glass and the glass color and opacity. Energy star fixtures ship with the lamps, which means ensures that they are the same color temperature.
o Energy star lamps are tested in independent labs that meet strict efficiency, performance, and quality criteria. This assures that you quality products.
LED LIGHTS
o LEDs are short for light emitting diodes. This technology is exceptionally energy efficient and the bulbs also last exceptionally long. LED lights can reduce energy consumption by 80-90% and last around 100,000 hours. Most LED lamps have the bulbs built into them, which means you buy the complete unit. While they are expensive now, supply and demand will ascertain that the price will steadily go down.
