Eco- Friendly Mowers

     There is a wide variety of eco-friendly mowers, ranging from push reel to electric cordless. All have a positive impact on the environment, all while beautifying your lawn.

     PUSH REEL MOWERS are also known as manual mowers and push mowers. They have least environmental impact, and they are also quiet and maintenance free. Modern reel mowers are not difficult to use and do not require much more effort to personally power than contemporary power mowers.

     A reel mower requires a slightly longer amount of time to use than a power mower, although it is a pleasant, relaxing experience. With a traditional power mower if it takes approximately 45 minutes to mow, it may take 60 to 70 minutes to mow the same area with a reel mower. There are some situations where a reel mower cannot be used or should not be used. Push reel mowers are not recommended for lawns over 7,000 square feet. It is possible to use a push reel mower over this expanse, however the time commitment has been found to be unrealistic for most people.

     Push reel mowers work best on traditional short-grass lawns. Push reel mowers will not cut tall weeds or dandelions. Due to their design, they will merely roll over tall weeds instead of cutting them down. The mower does not handle debris such as stick sand rocks well. It is also necessary to mow on a regular basis if you are going to use a push reel mower. If you wait a longer period than normal it may take two passes to cut the lawn to your desired length. With a well-maintained lawn, which is mowed weekly, then a push reel mower will be ideal.

     CORDED ELECTRIC LAWN MOWERS are generally lighter than cordless mowers. They do not have a battery and they also cost less than cordless models. The only “disadvantage” is that you have to negotiate mowing with a cord and an extension cord. Corded electric mowers are ideal for smaller yards.

     CORDLESS ELECTRIC LAWN MOWERS are slightly more expensive than corded mowers, but the cost is saved in the amount of hassle you will be relieved from by not have to deal with a cord while you mow. A 24V cordless mower is powered by two standard 12V batteries. It is designed for medium lawns, running up to 45 minutes.

     ROBOTIC LAWNMOWERS are considered to be friendly, and are designed by “Friendly Robotics.” When the company went bankrupt, the mower was taken off the market for a short time. They are slowly coming back into business, and once again making robot mowers. The design has been updated and continues to be successful. They work with a sensor directing them over the yard, along fence lines, and around trees. The robotic lawnmower may need to be directed from here to there over time, but is mainly a very independent mower.
