Babycare Products Not Tested on Animals
We all want the best for our babies and we are unlikely to accept anything less than excellence in quality when it comes to baby products. Many companies, in their attempts to ensure that their products are safe for babies, practice animal testing prior to putting their products on the market. Many companies also use animal by-products in their baby products. However, consumers are becoming more and more aware of eco-friendly practices and taking part in initiatives to advocate for animals that have been used to test products in the past. EnviroCitizen.org has provided a few tips for the socially responsible consumer to make shopping more eco-friendly and to assist you in avoiding products associated with cruelty to animals.
Prior to purchasing, read the labels on any baby products that you plan to purchase. It is best if you look for products with labels that state "no animal by-products" as well as "no animal testing." You can also look for the international logo which was recently created to identify cruelty-free products. This logo can be recognized as an image of a bunny with a slash through it.
If you have any questions regarding a particular baby product, EnviroCitizen.org suggests that you contact the company that manufactures the baby product directly. Try calling the customer service line listed on the baby food product or any personal care item. Ask the customer service representative if the company has chosen to sign the Corporate Standard of Compassion for Animals (CSCA), the current standard for cruelty-free products.
It may help you to familiarize yourself with ingredients prior to purchasing, that way you know what to look for and what not to buy. PETA’s website provides a list of the names of synthetic ingredients found in baby food that contains animal by-products. You may also wish to locate a list of cruelty-free baby food companies. In Defense of Animals’ website lists a number of companies that produce cruelty-free products for babies which includes food items.
Great listings of natural baby products that are eco-friendly and are not associated with any cruel practices to animals can be found all over the web, including on our site. Burt’s Bees is a familiar and accessible brand that uses eco-friendly, cruelty-free practices in their products and packaging. They do not practice any animal testing and none of their products use animal by-products. Badger Balm and Little Forest Baby products are other wonderful companies that do not practice animal testing and offer quality, safe products for babies.
